Idea Generation

Although we use the Russell 2000 Index to benchmark our performance, our universe of eligible stocks actually extends beyond those 2,000 companies. In fact, there are more than 3,500 companies that generally fall within our investment parameters. We narrow that large number into something much more manageable through a combination of qualitative and quantitative screening mechanisms. We utilize a variety of proprietary quantitative screens to eliminate companies that don’t fit our investment discipline and to identify companies with the basic financial characteristics that fit within our disciplined investment approach.

Many of our investment ideas originally emanate from meetings we conduct with the senior management teams of small-sized companies. These meetings may take place at our offices, the individual companies themselves or at investor conferences where we have the opportunity to speak with the management teams of several companies. Many conferences we attend are focused on specific sectors – a great way for us to glean industrywide trends rather than limiting our knowledge to insight about specific companies. This also gives us the opportunity to make real-time comparisons between key industry players.

Eagle Boston Investment Management also actively utilizes our collective network of contacts within the investment community to identify potential investment candidates. This community of contacts includes industry analysts, company officials, industry experts and more. It’s a valuable community that has been developed over our collective decades of small-cap investing. While we may be introduced to potential ideas from many sources, we rely on our own due diligence and analytical efforts to construct investors’ portfolios.

Eagle Boston Investment Management examines companies that currently receive limited Wall Street coverage, as well as those that have produced conflicting – or even pessimistic – outlooks from market analysts. We believe it is these types of companies that may possess the potential to achieve growth for our clients when the overall market recognizes their true value.
